Advanced SEAL Delivery System (ASDS)

The Advanced SEAL Delivery System (ASDS) is a dry, 65-foot mini submersible and strategic asset that is used for long-range insertion of SEALs from a host platform, either surface ship or submarine, to a mission area. It has increased range, speed, and capacity over the SEAL Delivery Vehicle, and the added advantage of keeping SEALs dry, and minimizing their exposure to cold and fatigue while in transit to their mission objective. The ASDS is transportable by land, sea, or C-5/17 aircraft. Currently, there are two Los Angeles-class submarines, USS Greenville and USS Charlotte, which have been modified to carry the ASDS. The vehicle is connected to the host ship by a watertight hatch, and has a sophisticated sonar and hyperbaric recompression chamber. It is operated by a crew of two and can carry eight SEAL team members.
