Most of us "older" Navy Veterans here recieve many questions about Naval careers, especially in SPECWAR. The questions are sincere and for the most part valid and interesting. Here are a few suggestions. - The blogs are great & open many doors,
- Check the career sites here at NS.com,
- Talk to your local Recruiters,
- talk to your FAMILY!!!
- Be realistic-I sometimes don't answer mail from a 14 year old who wants to be a SEAL, USNA grad, Pilot, & Merc all within 4 years of getting their GED!
- Ask yourself "why (?)" you want these things-if it's part of the present SOC "fad" think again, it's not a game. This is serious stuff and you can die or get someone else killed!
The answers may lead you in many different directions. I work with high school DEPers from the Navy, Marine Corps & Army. These are motivated and dedicated 11th & 12th graders. If you're a HS junior-get in the DEPer Program & get a feel for the real deal and professional guidence on your military carrer. I've met some great operators here who'd I have cover my six anytime. Just be selective on who you rely on for intell, and remember, the bottom line is it's your decision-your life! Career operators like "Frogman80", "Mark" (NS.com), & "Seaspectre" are experienced veterans that can provide valuable input to helping you along the way. This input is based upon their training and years of experience in the field. They/we want to help you in any way we can! This, however, does not take the place of the Navy Recruiters that are trained to help you. Just let them know what you're interested in and they can advise as to if your goals are realistic and if you qualify... Good Luck & CARPE DIEM!!!!
