ABOUT ME (19 October 2010)

Hi, my name is Tom Delaney and I am the trainer for Heroes of Tomorrow Fitness, or what I call “HT Fitness” for short, in the St. Paul (MN) area. I am an endurance athlete and compete in long distance running and obstacle course races (e.g. Twin Cities Mud Run, Marine Corps Recruit Depot – San Diego “Bootcamp Challenge”). My professional background consists of over 15 years of experience as an educational psychologist and administrator in government, universities, and public schools in diverse roles of leadership development. As part of my work, I recently completed the Marine Corps Educators Workshop, an orientation and participatory experience at Marine Corps Recruit Depot – San Diego where I learned what it takes to successfully complete recruit training and earn the title of “United States Marine.” I also have a background in theological studies and am currently completing qualification for MOSC 56A – Command and Unit Chaplain in the United States Army.

I became involved with HT Fitness in September of 2010. I had a lot of success with the Navy SEAL Fitness program authored by Stew Smith (US Navy, SEAL) and had recently done well in the 2010 Marine Corps Recruit Depot – San Diego “Bootcamp Challenge” 5K obstacle course, thanks to Stew Smith’s program. As an HTF trainer, I work directly with Stew Smith to fulfill the HT Fitess mission and goals of inspiring, teaching and preparing military and first-responder recruits and candidates for physical training requirements and qualification, at no cost. I also work to provide motivational and technical support for others who want to attain and maintain high levels of physical fitness for their own reasons. I am not paid for this work, but what I do get are the intangible benefits of a better quality of life and the pride that comes with helping others achieve their personal goals and dreams.

In addition to Stew Smith’s programs, I have also had a lot of success with the Enhanced Physical Readiness System (EPRS) developed by Master Gunnery Sargeant Paul Roarke (USMC Ret.) and incorporate components of EPRS in my design of HT Fitness training. Other resources I draw upon based on my personal experience of their sustainability, affordability, and effectiveness are the Marine Corps Daily 16, and the Navy Special Warfare Physical Training Guide.

I volunteered to become an HT Fitness trainer because my experience has been that the highest levels of motivation and real leadership development only happens in teams. HT Fitness training is an opportunity for people to pursue physical fitness goals with a highly motivated group of people who recognize and respect the hard work that goes into physical fitness training and qualification. At the same time, the experience of taking on and overcoming personal and shared challenges as a member of a team is, in my experience, the best and most reliable way to bring out the leadership qualities in any person.

I hope you will consider whether HT Fitness training is an opportunity for you to take your motivation to the next level and discover your leadership potential. If I can answer any questions for you, let me know by sending me an e-mail at tjdelaney1@stthomas.edu. I’ll be happy to answer your questions for you.

Sincerely,
