Yeah, and as long as we can keep someone like Hilary or Barack out of office, keeping them controlled will be somewhat easier. Who knows, the way the economy is right now.

There isn't any sort of majority vote or anything, at least that's what I understood my Prof to say. Which really made no sense to any of us, the UN is really good at doing nothing at all. Which in my mind, why do they even exist?  It's really frustrating, because they have the potential to help and do good, but why on earth is China and Russia given that much power? That's the part I have a hard time understanding.

Yeah, China is a bigger player than France, and yes oil is the main reason. It's not just the US, because both Russia and China are on the Security Council. If they say 'no' and veto there is not a single thing the US can do about it, short of doing what they did with Iraq and go over the UN. and being 15 is okay, I'm not that much older than you and have a bro that is 16.

Hey, just saw your comment on my blog, as irony would have it, we're also watching that doc, in this class. I'm a PolSci major and we discuss the Darfur situation a lot in my classes. One of the big reasons that the UN is dragging its feet is that any decision made by the UN general assembly must be approved by the Security Council. Apparently, Russia and France have interests in Darfur and any aid or intervention might interfere with their interests. And, of course it only takes one veto to end all discussion.
