ROTC

04/04/2009 19:55:01 / awake

About a year ago I applied to West Point. I imagine the people at admissions got a laugh when they opened my file. My efforts paid off recently, though. Instead of getting into West Point, I got a letter saying that I got a full ride, 4 year ROTC scholarship to the school of my choice (that has a ROTC program, of course). I could not have imagined a better result. I was going to enlist under the 18X when I was old enough, and be what I really wanted to be: an SF medic. But I've grown up in a household where both my parents were West Point graduates (one of them was a Ranger), so I've had the leadership thing instilled in me since childhood. With this scholarship I get the best of both worlds: a four-year education in Emergency Medical Services, and a commission (being able to try out for one of the best Nordic Ski teams in the nation is just a bonus). Sometimes, no matter how certain you are of your future, something just falls out of the sky and changes your life. Hopefully it's for the better.
