1988'ish graffiti of bridge BUD's grads

My husband told me a funny story he heard, I wanted to know if it was true...cannot get any google info it. It would have been around 1988-1990...BUDs graduating class secretly scaled the Coronado Bridge late night, hung a banner or wrote their class number on it. The next day, their CO repremanded them, told them, I just want to see it disappear by the next morning...next morning, it was gone. True...myth...bullshit?
