I was in the Navy, I did have a high clearence and did, on two occasions interact with the SEALS (comms stuff). The ones I met were thin, smaller than I expected, in great shape and very humble. I am now a Police Officer in a large suburb of Boston. One of my supiriors claims to be a SEAL. Every part of my gut tells me he is not a SEAL. He has used his claim as a SEAL to move to several positions, such as; fire arms instructor and SWAT Team Leader. On one hand, I want to expose him as a fraud. On the other I don’t want to humiliate him. I also dont want him to get one of my fellow Officer killed just to save him a spanking. I know that I could get ahold of his DD-214 and prove it that way. But I would have to break into the HR office to get it. Not cool. Please advise.

As a former Navy guy, Government contract "SPECOPs field op, big city cop and federal investigator, I say let it go...

If he has achieved all this within a large department (and we all have/had a Rabi), he's got to have most of his act together.  I'm sure the quals for the positions he holds within your organization are the same for everyone.

I worked for a kick-ass Sgt on the SRT Dive Team (which I formed & wrote the protocols) who we called "Captain America..."  He claimed to be a former Force Recon guy-I later learned that he was assigned to Force Recon in an admin roll-but he was tops in EVERYTHING he did in our department (1500 sworn officers NOT counting Corrections), and was awarded our FIRST "Medal of Valor" after taking two rounds in his vest saving a civilian, and was always a top Gold Medal guy in the national level Police Olympics.

Face it, SEALs are the "flavor of the Day", and people want a taste.  Question is, would you trust him as your partner on a felony stop?  If so, trust him, if not, do what you think is best for your Brothers in Blue & your Department.
