Graduating college soon, I definitely won't have enough money for the procedure and will have to opt for some type of monthly payment plan. Also, when did you resume running/PT?
Is anyone here that has gotten the surgery and is over 50 years old? I'm 58, 20/400 (-8.5) and am not sure it's worth doing it at my age. Contacts have been great for me for years, and don't want to risk anything if there's a chance it won't "take" well.

I remember a brochure for CareCredit at the eye center that had 0% interest over 12 mos. Some insurance plans offer a discount on surgery, so that's something to look into...
I began working out again after about a week. Swimming the doc said I had to wait 2 weeks. I erred on the side of caution though, this was something I really wanted to go flawlessly, and I did not rush back into things.
Yeah Care Credit is 0% interest for 2 years w/ no penalities for paying off in advance. I'm getting my surgery in Dec good to see that other tadpoles are in the same boat and getting 20/15 results!

will do, I'm applying for my loan this weekend with Care credit and I get surgery week before Christmas. My only worry is how long I can't train because of it I'll just be fatting it up at home playing video games or something most of break...

When I had mine done, it was uncomfortable for about4 days, but the first day and a half were really bad. I would plan on sleeping for the at least the entire first day.
Someone is basically going to sand down to the top layer of your eyeball, I don't think you'll feel like staring at a TV too much. Not to mention vision is not perfect out of the box with PRK, like it would be more so with Lasik. You will experience mildly blurry vision, depending on a variety of factors, for possibly up to a couple weeks.
That all being said, congrats on the surgery. I've haven't regretted my surgery once. I would always recommend PRK versus Lasik for anyone going into a job that has physical requirements.
Also, is your doctor going to do both eyes in one surgery? Mine more or less refused too, because they feel PRK is too "painful" to do both eyes at once.
yeah he's doing both in one surgery, I heard it was like sand in your eyes but didn't know I couldn't watch tv or anything. I was hoping I could atleast play video games and watch tv to pass time even if my eye sight when in and out to pass the time.
How long was your recovery until you could workout again? I know two weeks until swimming and one week of definitely no sweating or water in your eyes. But I didn't get a definitive no heavy lifting and strenuous exercise until this date.
The feeling post-surgery for me was more of a discomfort, like wearing really dry contacts. Watching TV was ok for short periods of time, looking at anything up close was impossible.
Thatguy, just follow your doctor's post-op recovery plan. It's in your best interest that this goes very smoothly. The fitness that you lose in 2-3 weeks of reduced activity will be minimal, and you'll gain it back in no time. On the other hand, if your eyes don't heal right the process to correct it will only add time, frustration and additional delays in working out to the whole ordeal. This is something you want to only do once, do it right the first time. Good luck.
