Just a note on reps.

The rep scale goes from strength, progresses through hypertophy and on into endurance beginning from 1-20+

While 1-3 is best for strength I would say its not ideal if you are new to a movement.

If you are just walking into the gym for the first time a program of heavy doubles and singles is not for you. Regardless of your goals.

I would suggest moving up to around the 5 rep mark still excellent for strength but not quiet as dangerous to a new lifter and allows you get some reps in to learn this new skill.

Mark Rippetoe typicaly goes with 5 reps for many reasons outlined in his books but its solid logic and I don't think you can argue with his validity as a coach.

Keep in mind I'm only refering to a brand new kid new to weights not an experienced lifter.

I completely agree Rob. If you're new to lifting or strength training, this kind of program really isn't for you. But, my assumption was that if you're in the group of guys that can crank out 100 reps in 120 seconds, you've probably got a decent amount of training under your belt.

Ok, wow. Great stuff to know. I am definitely going to be changing my training then. Thanks for the info, especially the ideas about max pushups between bench sets.
