Back in the days of Vietnam when the frogman were transitioning into Sea, Air and Land Teams a group of Americans first SEALs gathered in the garage of one of their teammates to form a fraternal order. Over the years this organization became an association encompassing all generations of frogman and renaming itself the UDT-SEAL Association. However the primary mission remained the same. That was until this year.
2013 marks the birth of the UDT-SEAL Association’s transformation from a social club to a not-for-profit Veterans Service Organization. An organization that not only continues to foster good will and preservation of the history of “the Teams” but more importantly one that advocates for the benefits of its members. Members that includes veterans who cleared the beaches of Normandy to the present day amphibious warriors that’ve rescued their countrymen, and women, from the perils of pirates and killed some of the worlds most renowned terrorists, including Osama bin Laden.
The name UDT-SEAL Association may not be as flashy as saying “Navy SEAL” in the title but those who know the origin of the organization realize its significance. Thankfully the Association, as those “in the know” affectionately call it is not a stand-alone organization. Like the word says it’s a group that associates itself with others to provide support to our SEAL veterans and their predecessors. Although membership is limited to those who have served in Naval Special Warfare, and a few others, you too can provide support through donations or by getting involved with activities in your area. Stay tuned to find out more or go to www.udtseal.org to make a donation or read a little about the history of frogman. Either way NavySEALs.com will continue to keep you in the Association know.
