According to the U.S. Navy, senior SEALs are set to receive reenlistment bonuses of up to $160,000. These bonuses will be given to those who have served 18 years aimed at keeping those with the most experience and knowledge on board to educate and lead junior personnel.
Historically, the Navy has had a difficult time keeping SEALs from punching out of the service and there have been many different retention ideas floating around in the past; most of which never materialized.
In my opinion, SEALs within the eight to twelve years of service are the most desirable to target for retention, as they have most definitely been around the block (multiple deployments), and are still very much operational. This is also the time when many choose to move on to becoming security contractors working for companies such as Blackwater or Triple Canopy, or pursuing other ventures entirely.
