Robert Kerkorian resigned as Waukegan Police chief yesterday, two months after he was sworn in and three days after he released a public statement acknowledging that he falsely claimed on his 1987 Police Department job application that he had trained as a Navy SEAL.
Military records show he never entered the rigorous specialized training that a Navy official said is considered the key to becoming a SEAL.
Kerkorian admitted he had said he was “involved in military actions which (he) was not”. In one instance, Kerkorian described to a fellow officer that during his time as a Navy SEAL he and his squad came under fire during a clandestine foreign reconnaissance mission.
The mayor accepted the resignation of Kerkorian because of the distraction caused by the SEAL controversy, the mayor stated.
