If you’re enjoying the CrossFit Games this week, you may notice that it seems like the SEALFIT Games. They started out with a swimming event, followed by a long endurance rowing event (first time ever), and even includes a Log PT event. No surprise that the man behind the workout programming is Navy SEAL Dave Castro.
SEALFIT is rooting for both Hack’s Pack UTE and Lindsey Valenzuela, who are both Kokoro grads and sponsored by SEALFIT (also special shout-out to my SEAL teammate Josh Bridges!). We wish them success, along with all the other amazing athletes participating in this year’s event.
Since the Games are this weekend, and the events are so familiar to us here at SEALFIT, I thought I would briefly discuss the differences between CrossFit and SEALFIT for those who may be curious.
CrossFit is multifaceted. There is the “sport,” of CrossFit, as seen in the Games which many of us at SEALFIT enjoy watching. There is also the community of CrossFit, which is seen in the affiliate base, the vast majority of whom do not compete in the Games, but do CrossFit because they love the training model and people they train with. We at SEALFIT also love CrossFit, and have embraced both aspects in our SEALFIT lifestyle.
Though SEALFIT includes CrossFit training in it’s physical training model, it differs from CrossFit quite a bit.
SEALFIT is a hybrid training program that uses best practices from the Navy SEALs and other warrior traditions to develop the whole person – in a team setting. This training includes CrossFit programming along with endurance, durability, mental toughness, team training, awareness training and yoga practices.
We recognize that no great things are accomplished solo – and that team training accelerates individual development. Our 1 and 3 week immersion academies and Kokoro camp are renowned for their ability to radically alter the mental toughness, self confidence and even sense of purpose of the students who have the courage to step up to the challenge.
I have my money on Hack’s team and Lindsey Valenzuela. They are SEALFITers.
