Jessica Buchanan, the humanitarian aid worker who was captured by pirates in Somalia in 2011, and months later was rescued by Navy SEALs, shared her story during the inaugural Pittsburgh Pays Tribute Gala fundraiser.
“That’s why I continue to speak out about my experience, because I want people to know what amazing men are out there, what they’re doing, what they’re sacrificing, what they’re families are going through, because they’re knights in shining armor that come in, they do their job, and then they fade into the background,” Buchanan added.
Buchanan was rescued on January 25, 2012 when a team of Navy SEALs parachuted into the Somali town, where pirates were holding Jessica and her colleague for ransom. The SEALs raided the compound killing all Somali pirates.
