I have had many reader requests recently to provide information regarding the pay and benefits of our elite maritime warriors. I hope to bring you more detailed information regarding specific benefits including the specific requirements a SEAL must meet before earning a special pay or earn the big time reenlistment bonus’ in follow-on articles, but wanted to start with a snapshot of the basic financial picture of a Frogman.
According to information provided by the official U.S. Navy SEAL and SWCC Scout Team, SEALs receive a salary, medical and life insurance, education funding, as well as travel and supply discounts. “These Navy SEAL benefits allow each SEAL to contribute to his community, family and country.”
Specifically Navy SEALs receive the following:
- Starting pay of up to $60,000;
- Qualification and re-enlistment bonuses;
- Possible repayment of college loans;
- Extra pay for diving, parachuting, and demolitions;
- 30 days vacation per year;
- Medical and dental benefits;
- Retirement after 20 years;
- Tax free pay in combat zones;
- Tax free allowances for housing and food;
- Access to military facilities.
The pay and benefits listed represent the backbone of the Navy SEAL compensation package. Rank and time in service will also have a dramatic impact on ones total pay. Check back later for more detailed information.
