The University of San Diego memorialized a fallen former rower turned Navy SEAL by naming an eight-man rowing shell after him in a ceremony Sunday according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.
The Michael Tatham, which will be used by the University of San Diego as a competitive rowing vessel, was christened by the university in a ceremony that was a part of the San Diego Crew Classic in Mission Bay.
Navy SEAL Michael Tatham graduated from the University in 2001. In 2001 and 2002, he was a coach and mentor for the USD’s novice rowing team. In 2003, he enlisted in the Navy and became a SEAL.
Tatham served on deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.
In 2011, Michael Tatham died in a motorcycle accident while on leave in from a deployment in Afghanistan.
