Message from a Retired Officer to a SEAL Candidate in Boot Camp

Luke,

I will be brief:

1. Keep your mind on your vision of being a SEAL at all times, but keep your eyes on the targets right in front of you that will lead you closest to mission accomplishment.

2. When you wake up every morning:

First thank God you made it another day.
Next thank your Parents for their support.
Next thank your teammates and teachers for getting you this far.
Next thank yourself for having the drive and aptitude to be an elite warrior.
Then do10 deep box breathing cycles and visualize yourself crushing the day’s adventures.
Finish by reciting a positive affirmation at least five times (you know: feeling good, looking good, oughta be in hollywood!).
Then hit the day as if your hair was on fire.

3. When you go to bed at night:

Box breath for 10 minutes
Review the day in your mind and make sure you have no regrets. Find the lesson in each challenging moment.
Revisit your intention and purpose for being on this journey: to be an elite Navy SEAL, to serve honorably and to fulfill your purpose as a warrior.
Sleep like a baby so you are refreshed and ready to roll to earn your place again tomorrow.

4. Smile and laugh more than you think you should.

5. Be the guy who is always asking others if they need help, is the first to clean up the team’s gear, and the last to leave.

6. Don’t even think about quitting, ever. It is simply not an option.

7. Come visit me at SEALFIT when you get through Hell Week.

Hooyah!
Coach Divine
