The college basketball season begins for all with intense training in the summer for those teams wishing to make it to the championships. For some teams though such as VCU, the coaching staff and players take their training one step further.
VCU head coach Shaka Smart wants to make sure his team is totally prepared for the season, which is why he had insisted for the last five years that his team undergo a week of SEAL physical training before the season starts.
“Communication, leadership, team building. They’re always going to hit us with some form of adversity,” Smart says in the video. “It’s good for our guys because that’s what we’re going to face in games that we play on the road and against great teams.” Smart man, no pun intended.
