2014 Polar Circle Half Marathon

Mark Divine No Comments SEAL News

Former Navy SEALs Mike Martin and Brian Hoke, along with a team of corporate citizens will brave the elements and race in the 2014 Polar Circle Half Marathon on October 25th, 2014.  This race, often referred to as “The Coolest Marathon on Earth,” sends runners through the arctic tundra just north of the Polar Circle in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland.  Team captain Rob Vogel of Whitebox Advisors generously underwrote this expedition and will lead his team on this frigid race to raise money for the Navy SEAL Foundation, which provides immediate, ongoing and unwavering support and assistance to the Naval Special Warfare community and their families.  The team hopes to raise $100,000 to benefit the Foundation, in tandem with the NYC Dinner Gala on December 4th, where the team will be in attendance.  In addition to Hoke, Martin and Vogel, civilians that will be joining the Navy SEAL Foundation Team include: Mark Edgar of Nomura Securities, Jacob Mercer and John Wood of Whitebox Advisors and Chris Biasotti of BlackRock Financial Management. The unusual race takes runners through the vast icy tundra of Greenland where they must persevere in extreme weather conditions.  The route includes glacier tongues and moraine landscapes through a silent, arctic desert, giving runners the opportunity to experience a challenging physical feat in one of the most remote corners of the world.
